Losing Medicaid opens a window to enroll, but it doesn't stay open.
The clock starts when your Medicaid ends
In most states, you have 90 days after Medicaid ends to choose a new plan, and you can apply up to 60 days before. Past that? Other life events, like moving, getting married, having a baby or losing job-based coverage, can open a new window, and you can also enroll during the yearly Open Enrollment period.
You may get help paying your premium
A premium tax credit can lower what you pay each month. The amount depends on your household size and income.
You may pay less when you need care
Depending on your income, you may qualify for a plan with lower deductibles and copays.
Applied for Medicaid and were denied? You may still be able to enroll, during the yearly Open Enrollment period or after a qualifying life event like moving, getting married or having a baby.
